Words Of Wisdom...About Christianity & Religion

I am starting a series of posts titled "Words Of Wisdom". Every Tuesday I will publish a post titled "Words Of Wisdom" and they are Words of Wisdom from various guest posters and guest bloggers about various random topics that I choose. The first installment of these posts is about the differences between Religion, Christianity and Relationships. Today's Guest poster is my mother , who is active in the church as a Minister, a Deacon, and an Elder; and she is also our family Matriarch! Enjoy!

Christianity and Religion.
Christianity is not a religion, or a denomination of a religion.
The word Christian literally means Christ -like, or to be like Christ.
This would imply a relationship.
To truly be like a person, you must first get to know that person.
Once you get to know the person, you can then imitate, or be like that person.
Religion is man's rules, regulations, doctrines, rituals and rites in reference to an icon of one's choosing.
I am a Christian (like Christ) by choice.
I don't have a religion or denomination according to man;
What I do have is a relationship with Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior.
This relationship causes me to hold close to his commandments, and to try to be like Him.
Do you have a relationship or a religion?

Well, people sound in. Leave me a comment and share your thoughts!

Hello Regina,

I am a Christian, Praise God, with a relationship. Amen and Amen to your post.

The Bible equates religion with superstition.

Acts 17:22 Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars' hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious. KJV

Acts 17:22 Then Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said, "Men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are very religious; NKJV

Greetings Regina!

Oh how I thank our Lord that you have been led to share this!!

I can not tell you how many of the church folks have not been shown how to be IN RELATIONSHIP...church activities become a substitute for spiritual intimacy...oh how I want to say more about this...

When I was writing a book about spiritual intimacy last year, I will tell you that just writing about the six stages of spiritual intimacy took MY OWN walk to another level...thank you Lord!

Thank you so much for this post! Keep writing!

Peace, blessings and DUNAMIS!

Relationship and religion can differ or be the same depending on the hearer and their journey in faith.

I have a personal relationship with Christ. I know Him!

Great post! It doesn't have to be either/or. Sadly, too many people seem to have a religion and not a relationship. It's discouraging that something got muddled up along the way because truly every religion was originally established to help people develop and keep that relationship with God. Lucky for me, I have both; my religion has helped me develop a wonderful relationship with Christ.
