Words Of Wisdom About ...Parenting!

Hi Blogging Family!!!! I'm back!!!!!

I have been without Internet since Friday, and I was going thorough WITHDRAWAL!!!!
I will give you guys an update on our move to Texas, later on but right now I have to get to my Tuesday "Words Of Wisdom" guest post! I had no connection for a few days and missed Tuesday but I will do it today.
So on to the good stuff...
I started a weekly post titled "Words Of Wisdom About...". Each Tuesday I publish a post written by a guest blogger who will talk about a topic of my choosing. Today's post is my seventh installment of these guest posts. Please enjoy as Ms Tanyetta, a blogging friend of mine and a sister by faith, and a stay at home mom discusses parenting memories...

Creating Positive and Lasting Memories for our Children.

I remember one of my favorite pastors of all time. One of my favorite sermons covered the topic of Memories. He said, "as parents we are responsible for the memories we are creating for our children."

He asked the congregation if they could think of a negative time in their childhood that's still very painful to even think of it.

The hands flew up in the air. Then he asked, "By a show of hands, how many of you can think of a very exciting time in your childhood that you wish you could re-live again." Fewer hands went up. Wow. What a very interesting moment. There were MORE hands that went up about the painful times in our childhoods compared to the happy times.

He went on to say, Whether the memories are negative or positive they are memories. What memories are we creating for our children? Just because we had a negative childhood doesn't mean we have to continue down that path with our children. God gave us our children as blessings or second chances to re-direct the paths of the memory lanes we create. We can make the choice to BREAK the CYCLE of abuse and negativity that has scarred many families in this world.

Of course I didn't quote the sermon word for word. It was a few years ago and my mommy brain has taken over but, I've summed it up best way I could remember.

So, in closing...What memories are we creating for our families? Does the negative outweigh the positive? Ask your children what they love or what they don't love most about being a member of your family. You'd be surprised at the answers. Just food for thought.

Thanks for sharing this sermon. There are sermons, and then there are life-changing sermons that change our perspective and motivate us for better.
