Old School Friday # 29 "Disco"!!

Hi There Bloggers!!
You Know What It Is!!!!
It is...FRIDAY!! Which is my favorite day of the week because I get to post my "Old School Friday" Picks! In case you are new around these parts and don't know what "Old School Friday" is, well it is grown folks MUSIC! Yes we post some music that comes from some time before 1999, (hopefully) to relive some memories, and to educate or just entertain each other.
Ms Grapevine and MarvalusOne have teamed up to create a meme titled Old School Friday and since I love my music I had to sign up to join! To join in the Old School Friday Fun go Here for guidelines.

The theme for this week ,

Here are the other "Old School Friday" participants:

- Electronic Village - Fresh And Fab - Danielle - Kim

- Ms Grapevine -Quick -Marcus LANGFORD

- Cassandra - - iriegal - -Hagar's Daughter - Lisa C

-Chocl8t - DP - Dallassouth - Kreative Talk

-Marvalus One - Regina - Clnmike - Vivrant Thing

-AJ - Sharon - The Creole Pimp - Invisible Woman

-Beleiver 1964 - Cooper - SJP -Bria - Hey Shae -

- From the Battlefield - Thembi - D Spot -

This first song is the ultimate disco song to me! I remember my mother with her hip hugger, bell bottom pants, afro and disheeki taking COUNTLESS hours to teach me this dance (I personally never liked it...sorry mom!) but she was having fun, and it is classic!

The Hustle - Van McCoy

Lady Diana can sure work a stage!
Love Hangover (Live) - Diana Ross

This last video is a shout out to anybody that has ever been to a "BLOCK PARTY"! Block parties in the projects (in the 70's - early 80's) were the best time ever! This song is the ultimate Block Party song because when it came on EVERYBODY got up to dance! I never understood how someone could dance (doing the bump, the hustle, etc.) all while holding a full cup of liquor and never spill a drop!! They didn't play! LOL!!

Dance To The Drummer's Beat - Herman Kelly & Life

Sorry about the 3 videos (I'm supposed to post only 2)! Hey I got it down from the original 10 that I watched last night, but I couldn't make the final cut!! Happy Old School Friday!

Peace & Love!

Let's Dance. ..

You had me dancing over her sistah Regina. I always envied my friends for knowing how to do the hustle and I didn't. Great picks....and sadly I can't limit myself to

jjbrock 05 September, 2008 10:43

Girl, you should stop what a great selection.

My favorite is the Hustle. Now that tune is in my head UGH! "Do the hustle".

Hagar's Daughter 05 September, 2008 11:11

You have my husband and I are doing the hustle right now. Happy OSF!

MrsGrapevine 05 September, 2008 12:20

The Hustle always makes me want to do just that...I don't know what it is about this song but it makes me feet movie without me trying...

I didn't realize the Diana Ross song was disco, this is one of my favorites by the Ms Ross...

I have never heard this last song, Herman & Life. I thought it was Let's Dance, but it is not...

Thembi 05 September, 2008 13:12

I spent months trying to pin down that Herman Kelly joint. Little kids who are just learning how to dance really seem to dig it. Great picks!

Quick 05 September, 2008 18:26

DO THE HUSTLE! LOL I love that song...Happy OSF!

ShAĆ© - ShAĆ© 05 September, 2008 19:05

I was about to give you props for the hustle, then I saw Diana and all I can say is you did the damned thang this week. Happy OSF. :-)

SjP 05 September, 2008 23:27

Invisible Woman 06 September, 2008 04:22

Nice to see Diana without 68 pounds of hair...

MsMarvalus 06 September, 2008 09:30

I am grooving too early this morning...too much dancing before I've had my coffee...

Great picks, Ms. Regina!

I kinda remember that song The Hustle. Of course I remember Diana Ross.

Good choices, Regina.

the hustle was a major disco hit by mccoy; it is one of the flyest disco songs still! diana ross was jammin' up a storm on her 'love hangover' tune. great picks!

Regina, I'm so glad you stopped at my blog so I could find yours. I called my sister Diane who drops the cards for me and told her to click on the Hustle..because even though my husband and I are 62 and 63 (old timers) we're dancing like that the next time we go out. Thanks for the refreshing wonderful walk down memory lane. I'll be back what a great site....

hi regina... how are u? well, i love diana ross... definitely, she's the disco queen! i like the hustle' too... hmm, it's really nice to relive music from the past... and the attire too... they keep on coming back in our fashion nowadays... like the bell bottom pants, retro dress- mini's, clog shoes, etc...

hehe...go on dancin', girl! take care always and Godbless! : )

SjP 09 September, 2008 08:34

Hi Regina, been trying to read your "I Am A Community Organizer" post - but for some strange reason it doesn't show up. The only thing I see is the icon - but, no post. Don't know if others are having the same problem - but, just thought I'd give you a heads up. Have a great and blessed day!

Believer 1964 09 September, 2008 14:24

Disco is all right!

Martin Lindsey. 11 September, 2008 18:03

You are jammin' into an entirely new weekend for me D.J. Regina. I've always loved "The Hustle". I'm going to have that flute line in my head the rest of the night now. I'll probably whistle it all the way to home too..."toot-toot-toot, to-to-ta-do-toot-toot"...

Great picks. Gee waddaya' spinnin' on your virtual truntables this week?

PopArtDiva 13 September, 2008 08:15

Regina - your post of the Hustle brought back many memories of my days in discos wearing platform shoes that were taller than me and my silly red haired "afro"! A bad perm is not an afro and a red head with a fake afro just looks like Bozo, lol!

I'm lucky that all my pictures from those days have mysteriously disappeared!
