Political Satire ~Or~ Racial Stereotyping ???

You've seen this:

But have you seen this:
According to the Associated Press activists at a conservative political forum bought boxes of waffle mix with a depiction of Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama on the box. Two writers from Franklin, Tennessee Mark Whitlock and Bob DeMoss said the waffle mix is meant to be political satire. Read more HERE.

like your political cartoons

jjbrock 13 September, 2008 22:05

Regina, its hate in the worst kinda way. What if someone would market a doll that supposedly looked like McCain but the arms wouldn't go up but so far, how would his supporters see that?

love ely 13 September, 2008 22:12

Also like your political cartoons. If you have time... please join or review my (us) thought at my post titled "If ONE why different".
Sincerely,

Wow, if only they'd put lipstick on him!

Racism is alive and well and having babies in American, no doubt. It's doing pretty well right here in a couple of these comments.

Racism and bigotry in this campaign and in this country is about to boil over. It's unfortunate, disgusting, and as sad as it can be.

SjP 14 September, 2008 08:30

And they say this election is not about race...

neferiti 14 September, 2008 12:09

Racism is alive and running rampant in the world! As long as the media partakes in the moment of supremacy we will continue to be bombarded with political satire that reeks of racism. According to Bell Hooks, the author of "Killing Rage", “Mass media are neither neural nor innocent when it comes to spreading the message of white supremacy. It is not far-fetch for us to assume that many more white Americans would be anti-racist if they were not socialized daily to embrace racist assumptions”. Therefore the challenge is for the media to be held accountable for their actions if we are to ever have racial justice in the world.

another sad chapter in American history...

Wow. People thought the NYer was funny & harmless. I think it paved the way for -ish like this.

Mekhismom 15 September, 2008 00:04

Ridiculous! Just like that New Yorker cover was "satire." Racism!

DP 15 September, 2008 00:43

Hey Regina,

You know what this is and the rest of this election cycle will likely bring a whole lot more of the same.

BTW - thanks for checking in with me over the last few weeks, its much appreciated. I'm back on the set now.

melanie 15 September, 2008 08:13

I hadn't seen any of these. I went and read the article you linked to. It's pretty sad. Not sure what else to say besides how sad it is.

I just wanted to check in with you and see if you were anywhere near the harder hit areas of Ike. Hope everyone is doing well.

Torrance Stephens - All-Mi-T 15 September, 2008 11:39

all are distractions and loosers

clnmike 15 September, 2008 12:38

I know satire and the Obama waffles was not it, that was racist hands down.

Sharon Brumfield 15 September, 2008 14:45

Hey girl...checking in on you to see if you got hit by the storm. I have another blogger friend and they made it through with minimal damage.

Also, could you PLEASE come over and click the My girls in the sidebar. Something has happened on my computer and it won't let me subscribe to blogs. That way I can way I can get updates when you post.
Thanks girl.

The waffle box...pretty sad. It does not matter who you are going to vote for...but people have no right to express yourself in this way. I guess it shows the lack a great lack of love and class.

bluedreamer27 16 September, 2008 09:25

hey that look so yummy although the waffle is covered with political substances hehe

June 17 September, 2008 09:27

It's hard to swallow that America is in the midst of so many horrors and we are subject to the likes of this and other petty distractions like lipstick, lapel pins, etc. If we elect McCain we'll deserve what we get...at least half of us will. I'm not sure how we'll survive it. Check out my post from Monday if you want to see my views on the election.

Believer 1964 19 September, 2008 02:58

At first, I didn't see the harm, but the side panel with the "Mecca" jab is wrong. Period.

Sadly, it's just another opportunist gone wrong.

This whole phenomenon (Palin/McCain) has spurred me to investigate subjects that are deeply disturbing to me - starting with the Christian Identity Movement and Christian Dominionism. I think we do ourselves a terrible disservice if we do not understand what motivates these people. For more details on these sickening "Obama Waffles" go to this URL:

It isn't just Obama that they are targeting ...
