Shame on Dollar Tree

In my internet travel last night I went by my sister-girls blog HERE and read the most asinine story. It appears that Dollar Tree is denying a family and 11 year old son, death benefits after a 26 year old young lady, a Dollar Tree employee was killed while working in the store in 2006. 26 year old Taneka Talley was stabbed in the store in an obviously racially motivated attack. The store is claiming that the death benefit denial is based upon the fact that the stabbing was racially motivated and a HATE crime, which makes it PERSONAL (even though he did NOT know her). Uh yes, that's right, you read the sentence right. The HATE crime is PERSONAL so the store's insurance carrier is denying the claim bought forth by Taneka's family. Read about it here.
What do you think about this mess?
So a HATE crime is PERSONAL?????

Wait a sec i read this wrong they are saying because it was a hate crime and not work related, thats why they are denying her.

That is just cold blooded and a PR bad move.

What kind of message are you sending out with that?

My prayers to the Taneka Talley's family and my venom to Dollar Tree.

i say that no matter the reason she was at work, in their store. This is truly awful but sadly not surprising.

I truly hope when the Democrats finally do get complete control that some of these huge companies are forced to honor their responsibilities.

Ha, I bet they deducted worker's Comp. out of every single paycheck she ever got.

My prayers for the family. this is one time I hope somebody sues someone!!

This is so trifling. It is only personal to the animal with the racist problem. It's random violence to the victim and the family. What a horrible example this company is setting.

This is just trifling indeed. They are absolutely ridiculous!

I just pray for her family. This is such an injustice!

I'm so sorry for her family...And I'm so sorry that there are people acting like that too...
She was working.Period! That should says it all, right??
This is not a matter of skin color! It's a matter of rights!Rights that are being denied to a child!...
*big sigh*It's a sad world this one that we're living in...

This is wrong on so many levels. It certainly lets the public know how they feel about their employees.

I think anyone working on the premises of your business establishment is due some type of death-related compensation. If this is 'Dollar Tree's way of cutting expenses, then God have mercy on their souls for their careless manners.

Kim said...

That is shameful and I hope he family continues to fight this.

corrin said...

I may be missing some information, but it's not a work related death, so Dollar Tree would not be responsible for paying benefits.

Would it be a good thing for them to do? Of course. Are they liable? Of course not.

This is some BS! I do hope this is not the end of this and the family will see justice!

Why are businesses always looking for a loophole? I'm so sick of money wanting more money. It's greed and under that influence, it’s never enough. Curious, are “they” sleeping at night?! Shame on them for making this more personal then it already is!
