The Diva Gets A Job!!

Well, Well, Well! It has finally arrived. One of the milestones in a child's life that the PARENT really appreciates... A CHILD'S FIRST JOB!! Oh Yea! You know there were times when your child asked you for something (like $100 sneakers) and you said "YOU BETTER GET A JOB!!" Well my youngest has officially crossed over into young adulthood (Well she officially did that already when she turned 16 two weeks ago)! The DIVA we all know and love has gotten her very first job! YES, HALLELUJAH, PRAISE HIM!! Oh, sorry I digress!
Miss Thang, got her a job at Six Flags Over Texas! She is SUPER excited. Number 1- she loves the park, Number 2- she loves to talk, Number 3- she is definitely a people person (just not first thing in the morning!), Number 4- She likes having her own money! These attributes make for a great employee at Six Flags! She went for her processing yesterday, that took a couple of hours! She goes back Sunday morning for Discovery Day (Orientation to the park).
But it is cause for celebration. Because when I heard those five little words - "Mom I Got The Job" I knew that my baby was ready to move on to the next level. A first job for a teenager is phenomenal. When you look past the obvious benefits like they can buy their own stuff (clothes, sneakers, hair products, jewelery, CDs... you get my point!) you realize the awesome teaching moments. This job opens up the door to discussions you may not have already had with your teen. For instance they now need to know about income tax, W-4's, budgeting, bank accounts, the different types of accounts and fees, the differences between checking and savings accounts, etc. Now, some of you may have already had these kinds of discussions with your children, but some of you may not have. This gives you the opportunity and the opening to go deeper with the discussion.
So yes, they can now buy there own stuff BUT they also need to know how to shop smart, how to find deals, how to get the most for their bucks. Because at $7.25 an hour just working part time after school that money will go fast!
But all in all I am sure she will have a blast! She also will not be alone because her cousin works there as well! With these two ladies set loose at Six Flags, I fear for the common folk!!
Oh Yea, I can see it now...It is going to be a good summer!! HOLLA!!

Allllrrriiiggghhhttt! I know how happy I was when the young SjPs got their first jobs and realized that the ATM only dispenses out money if you got it in the bank and only in $20 denominations. Congrats to both of you!
