A Sunday Well Spent!

Ahhh, the joys of having a good work ethic AND some common sense! Don't you love when you realize that your children really DO listen to you (sometimes!) and actually follow your advice? This is one of the BETTER parts of parenting!!
My younger son has been working at Kroger's for 2 years. He has a good work ethic, doesn't smoke, doesn't drink and doesn't spend money frivolously. The pay is not the greatest but it is better than no pay at all! The city of Arlington has no mass transit system so in order to get ANYWHERE you have to drive. And with Texas being so huge everything is spread out all over the place. Needless to say the store he works in is not walking distance from where he lives. He had been relying on rides from various people, which can be a pain in the butt sometimes. So he got his license and needed a car. On his salary it would be a real stretch to pay a car note plus the insurance, gas and upkeep of a car. But last year at income tax time I told him to save his money for his car. So he put his income tax check in the bank added a little more to it here and there and just left it there.

****PAUSE****Do you know how hard it is for a young adult to save money?????? This was a hard enough task as it is, so I am VERY PROUD of him! *****

So anyway, 6 months later here we are in September and Sam decided to go to a car auction to look around and see what they had available and the process of getting a car.
So on Sunday we went to a car auction in Dallas. Have you ever heard the saying "You have not cause you ask not"?? Well, when we got there we over heard someone talking about a program and since they were of low income and received government assistance the prices were cut in half for them. HMMMMMMMMMM, so when we got to the front desk we asked the question, "What exactly qualifies you as low income? and they showed us a list of stuff: medicaid, SSI, TANF, Full time student, Medicare, etc. However, my son did not fit into any of those categories ... bummer... BUT way at the bottom of the list a check box just simply said "low income"! So we looked at each other and I guess you know he checked that box! He had a pay stub with him from work, so we decided to leave it in God's hands, they could only say yes you qualify or no you don't qualify.
Have you ever heard the saying "Favor Ain't Fair"?? Well due to God's favor my son did qualify for the program, AND they didn't even check his stub! He went into the auction with about $1200 and he made out like a bandit! The low income program actually cuts the prices in half!!!!!
So my son bought his first car at the auction for about $750!!! OH YEA, OH YEA, OH YEA!!! So the car, title, buyers fee, taxes, AND insurance all came to LESS THAN $1000!! OK, say it with me now "FAVOR AIN'T FAIR!!!!!!!" I'm so glad that he saved his money, so he had a nice little lump sum to work with.

So
my son got his first car for under a thousand dollars and has NO monthly payments! God Is Good!
Did I mention that my daughter's boyfriend works on cars?? My son bought a new battery, my daughter's boyfriend tightened up some connectors and Sam the Man is on the road! Don't you love it when a plan comes together???!!!???
