Awaken His Eyes: The Awakened Book One by Jason TesarMy rating: 3 of 5 stars
Awaken His Eyes: The Awakened Book One is a Sci-Fantasy book about parallel worlds, ancient evils, warriors, survivors, and tenacity. The book started out well, the opening pages got you hooked and interested in where the story was going. However by chapter two the book really slows down. The following few chapters are so far different from chapter one that I was confused and had to go back and read the synopsis a few times to make sure I was reading the correct book! Three quarters of the book was about a family torn apart by circumstance, pride, and an unrelenting twist of fate. This book is a long introduction of the books to follow. The author took 275 pages to lay the ground work, so book two of the series should be phenomenal! By the last quarter of the book you finally see where the story is heading and by the time you fully realize where the author has led you the story of book one is over. You can think back to chapter one and connect it to the last half of the final chapter and have an "Aha" moment. This moment makes you think, "Oh Okay, now what?" by then of course the story is over. Everything that happened in chapters 2-23 are disconnected from the first chapter. I like the book but it was very slow at times. I enjoy book series however I like when the books also work as stand alones and this one does not. Anyone starting on book two of this series will likely NOT understand what is going on (since book one was the introduction). A lot of the story was spent on the story lines of the individual characters more so then tying them together as an overall story.
The book does have strong, well developed characters (well, it should because it took an entire book to develop them...)and I would be interested to see how the story progresses. The Awakened
