Emotions Versus Wisdom

We, Humans are emotional! No one alive can say they have never been emotional about a person, an event, or a situation. Emotions are not bad but they cannot rule your life. Emotions have the ability to take us where common sense or wisdom cannot keep us. Most situations are escalated (for good or bad) when emotions are involved. We have seen emotions get out of hand and cause people to bring about destruction, mayhem, and death. Of course we have also seen emotions at the height of some of the best times in history, like births, graduations, etc.

I saw the movie “Inside Out” a while ago with my grand kids. And the movie was very good and had an awesome message. People often try to live a balanced, productive life by using one emotion, but as proved in the movie AND in real life, we in fact need ALL of our emotions. HOWEVER, we need to have a BALANCE. You cannot go through life running on only one emotion. If you are ALWAYS HAPPY and have no trials or no drama how do you grow. Mistakes and bad situations help us to learn and grow. So you need a balance of all your emotions. You need to understand that you cannot let one emotion run your life. You cannot be JOYFUL all the time, or SAD, FEARFUL, ANGRY, or DISGUSTED, all the time. YOU NEED BALANCE!

Part of that BALANCE is using WISDOM. Emotions WITHOUT Wisdom is a recipe for disaster. A lot of our problems are created because of the mishandling or misunderstanding of our feelings. We need to use wisdom to know when our emotions are getting out of control. WISDOM will keep you from emotional destruction. Proverbs 29:11 says “A fool vents all his feelings, But a wise man holds them back”. Your feelings will cause you to blindly run with an emotion not considering where you end up, how you got there, OR WHO you injured in your wake. However, Wisdom will cause you to consider your feelings, the cause and effect of them, the root of the problem, and possible resolutions. In other words WISDOM WILL KEEP THOSE FEELINGS/EMOTIONS IN CHECK!!
As humans we transform our feelings and emotions into some sort of action. Wisdom will help us to make sure those actions are the CORRECT ACTIONS.
